About Us

Grandad Bills Cricket Club provides respite care for people affected by dementia. Our carers make home visits to offer care to people living with dementia and give them the chance to take part in activities at home and outside. Our aim is to give carers a much-needed break allowing them to do the things that most of us take for granted - whether that's shopping, gardening, visiting friends and family or just having a rest.

Each care package is tailored to the individual needs of the family we are helping. It delivers 30 hours of Respite Cover spread over a ten week period. The cost of each package is approximately £500, funded by your donations.

George & Betty's Story
George & Betty have been married for over 60 years and have never spent a day apart, living in various countries together.  Sadly, with the onset of Betty's dementia and with both of them suffering with fragility and arthritis, daily life has become a struggle.  With most of their family living in America, their only help/contact comes from the visits allocated by the local authority to attend to life preserving tasks.

George sits by Betty's side constantly tending to her needs the best he can but he has recently suffered a fall and deteriorating health is compromising his ability to care full time.  This has caused him significant stress as he is terrified Betty will have to go into a residential accommodation.

We have been able to send a carer to work with George and Betty and give George a small window of time where he can focus on his own rest and well-being.
He takes the chance to rest uninterrupted and likes to read whilst the carer encourages Betty to talk about her life and do some reminisce activities such as baking.  Betty particularly enjoys looking at the family album with the carer or talking about the embroideries she has made which are displayed around the house. She also talks about her time when in America.

George says this small weekly support, knowing someone is coming to relieve him for a few hours, so that he can focus on himself, has contributed to allowing him to continue caring for Betty and enabled them to remain together in their home.
